Monkey News

So, I had a midwife appointment this morning.

I had the usual debate over getting my cervix checked or not.
On one hand curiosity reigns and on the other my non-intervention brain says NO! at how unnecessary it is.

But curiosity won...that and my due date is this Sunday so naturally that sky-rocketed my already ample curiosity.

Good news is...
I'm now "a good 3 cm" according to the midwife, still 70% effaced which she reassured me is "perfect for where you are at right now...first kid and all" and my cervix is "very soft and stretchy...which is great!". So...I have made progress in the last few weeks! Wahoo! The midwife assured me that my cervix is doing it's thing...now we just need a few other things to catch up!

Mediocre news is...
That baby is still not quite down low enough to bring labor on. Uhg! So, the midwife suggested sitting on the yoga ball "all the time", doing stairs (yeah, right! At least not in 90 degree heat. And even then...is she kidding?), taking L-O-N-G walks (now that I can do) and "when you're sitting watching TV, just grab your knees and bring them up by your ears because that really helps widen your pelvis". Uh. I think I'll stick to the yoga ball and walks, thank you very much! ;)

So, now I will spend the next few days/weeks trying to widen my pelvis in an attempt to entice Monkey to drop down a bit, thus setting off a chain reaction to tell my uterus to start the party. A party which could start tonight, in a few days or in another week or so. Just gotta love all this ambiguity!

Overall, I'm doing OK. I know that is probably an unexpected turn from my post a few days ago (the hormone fueled whining post) but I'm actually at peace right now. I'm excited for Monkey's arrival but am also completely content being REALLY pregnant and waiting for the next phase. We've been dodging the heat by living in our basement or 'running errands' to places with AC. Both Tre and I are on our FMLA leaves; Tre has until the end of August off and I'll be going back to work sometime at the end of October. So, it's party time at the Clayton Casa...not really, but we're definitely chillaxin'!

I'm relishing the time that Tre and I have together...just hanging out, talking, watching tons of old 80's movies (think...Big Trouble in Little China, The Goonies) and parlaying about what lies ahead. It's almost like a second honeymoon, in a way. A honeymoon where you can't really GO anywhere but where it's just the two of you in this special sacred time. I'm overwhelmed with how amazing it is. (And yes, that's probably more of those hormones talking there...viva la hormones!)

So, we're moving ahead in this adventure...it leaves me in awe!

39.2

Ok, so I've left the pathetic self-pity of the last post behind...

Things are looking up because:
~I'm starting to feel a bit better and I think my cold is on the decline, thank goodness!

~I got some amazingly good sleep the past 2 nights (While I'm definitely NOT a fan of pharmaceuticals, I finally broke down and took some Benadryl)

~I spent some much needed QT with hubby and we're solid again

~Went to see 'The Proposal' and laughed...it really is the best medicine

Monkey/pregnancy update:

~I'm 39.2 weeks pregnant and technically 'due' on Sunday the 19th...but anytime between now and then is fine with us!

39 weeks prego

~I'm GBS+ so that means I'll have to get to the hospital at least 4 hours before delivery to get 2 doses of antibiotics. I was pretty bummed about this at first because I wanted to spend the majority of my time laboring at home and had requested to not have an IV...but things change...so we'll just aim to get to the hospital a little earlier than previously planned.

~My friend Carrie (who used to be a doula and is now a rockin' Labor & Delivery nurse and who will be attending the birth) came over last weekend and she and Tre did a belly cast of my belly greatness. It was SO much fun and now I have a permanent reminder of just how large I was at 38 weeks. Crazy! It's one thing to constantly look down at your belly or catch glimpses of yourself in the mirror but it's another to behold your belly in front of you...a life-sized tangible image. I think we'll smooth out the rough parts of the casting, prime it and then have a henna artist decorate it before applying a topcoat to seal it. Not sure if we'll actually display it or if it will just be something that is kept as a memento, but I'm SOOO glad we did it! (Not sure I'm going to post pics of this seeing as we did the full torso, not just the belly. I'm glad to share with those of you that want to see it...but not feeling the need to post it on the web for all who lurk!)

~I've gained 13 pounds total during this pregnancy. And yes, I can hear the moans of hatred aimed at me right now. Just remember that those of us that are already pleasantly fluffy to begin with need not gain lots of weight. We come pre-packaged to foster life...or so I like to think.

~As of my last check (which was on July 3rd ) I was 1.5-2 cm, 70% effaced, soft and ready. Ready for what, I'm not sure...its' been 10 days since then. Hopefully I've made some additional progress?!? Maybe?

~We received our first shipment of diapers from the diaper service this morning. Tre and I spent 10 minutes folding and stacking 70 soft white cloth diapers for the little one. As soon as I get them neatly placed in the changing table, that will be the final 'to do' for Monkey's arrival.

Our first diaper shipment!

Hubby wielding his mad diaper folding skills! He's a natural!

A neatly folded diaper...can't say the second shipment will be folded as neatly, but we're starting out well...

70 neatly folded diapers...makes my Type A personality just twitterpated!

~Upon waking up this morning I have noted an increasingly nagging lower backache. This could be due to the fact that I dosed myself with Benadryl again last night and had (for me) the sleep of the Gods and I could have been in a weird position the whole time OR it really is the 'start' of something. I guess time will tell. I'm trying not to play the 'what if' game...but what if this is it?!? Hmm.

And I want to give a shout out to my birthday boy!

My wonderful hubby entered this world 30 years ago yesterday!

I'm so grateful for his life, for the wonderful husband and friend he is and the amazing father I know he will be.

An older pic of hubby, but he does love his fishing...or shovel nose shark catching, as it were!

Happy 30th, Tre! I love you!

"Do you have the time, to listen to me whine?"

"About nothing and everything all at once?"...thank you Green Day!

So, I have become...a whiner. Why, you ask? Well, allow me to elaborately whine about everything a little more...

~ I'm a fabulously large 39 weeks pregnant and tired of being in said state. It seems this child is nowhere near ready to make their grand entrance into the world and as many a pregnant person has said, "I swear I'm gonna be pregnant for the rest of my life"...no joke!

~ I have acquired a cold. I am SOOO stinkin' miserable! My sinuses are completely congested to the point the Neti pot fails to break through the muck, Sudafed (yep, the REAL Sudafed) leaves me so hopped up that my heartrate speeds to 120 and yet I'm still stuffy and my head is pounding. I've tried to get some good sleep but when I sleep on my side all the junk drains into that part of my head making it pound all the more, so I switch back to the other side just to have it repeat the process on the other side. I've also tried positioning myself in a modified back-sleeping arrangement but then I just have post-nasal drip all night and wake up feeling queasy and equally stuffed up and headachey. So, I switch between positions every 1/2 hour all the while getting up every 1 1/2 - 2 hours for my nightly pees. Boo!

~ My friend whose due date was 4 days before mine is had her baby last night a few days early of her actual due date. While I am extremely excited for her I'm also completely jealous that she is no longer the size of a small country and she's done waiting for the kid to arrive. As aforementioned...I'm pretty sure I will never give birth so I'm jealous she has been allowed to pass "Go" and collect $200 while I'm stuck in jail. Uhg!

So, all that to say I've been feeling pretty sorry for myself the last couple of days. I'm huge and uncomfortable, I have a raging head cold that is making me even more miserable, I want to be un-pregnant but at present don't have enough energy to even make it through the day without a nap so how could I possibly endure the physical demands of labor?

So, I whine about everything.

I whine that my head hurts and my ears hurt and my sinuses hate me and that my body has rebelled against me and that no medicines are making it any better and I've been told to be patient but lately I'm being patient with so many things I have plum run out of patience.

I whine that I'm still pregnant and growing larger with each passing day and although I've tried to be patient...I'm finding that each day that goes by depletes the patience account that much more.

I whine that I don't want to go into labor because I'm too tired to follow through with that and feel I would be tempted to beg the docs to just 'put me out' and then I could wake up with a baby (circa 1950's style maternity ward)

I whine because it feels Tre has distanced himself from me lately and now is when I feel I need him more than ever. I swear the feeling of distance between us has nothing to do with the fact that I whine and that he tries to provide remedies which I shoot down in disgust only to whine some more about why I don't feel good.

And so after throwing myself a 1/2 hour long pity party full of wailing (which made my head pound more, my sinuses completely lock up and my eyes bloat like red puffer fish), I realized I need to get over myself. Truly this is not the end of the world. Yes, I'm incredibly miserable and feel I will be forever, but the truth is...the cold will eventually go away and I will eventually go into labor.

And I thank you for indulging me in my whining...

crashes and an update

Hi blogging world!

Just a quickie update to let you know that our beloved home computer has crashed. It is completely DEAD. And the cost to retrieve/repair it would be more expensive than just replacing it. Grrr!

This could not come at a more inconvenient time...here we are expecting our first kiddo any day now and no way to communicate to anyone. Yes, there are cell phones, but I don't have everyone's number and it's just so much easier to type a little ditty on Facebook. Double Grrr!

So, now we're in debate mode. What type of computer to get: Yes, Mac's are wonderful but they are expensive and seeing as I'm starting maternity leave soon, we are pretty tight on the budget and spending a grand just doesn't fit in with our plan. Yes, PC's are pretty cheap and would tide us over until we're able to get a decent computer but they are also prone to viruses and crashing more frequently...as we are experiencing! And all this 'big' decision making...thus the triple Grrr!

As for other news... I am now 38 weeks pregnant and LOVING the HOT HOT weather (note excessive use of sarcasm). I'm doing ok...kinda achy, swollen and anxious but otherwise doing well. For those who have a desire to know the medical details...I'm 2 cm, 70% effaced, soft and anterior. All things that point to imminent delivery...as in 3 hours to 3 weeks. Gotta love the ambiguity! ;)

So, Tre and I are trying to tie up some loose ends, get all our final preps in order while waiting patiently wait for Monkey. I'm continuing to work although my schedule is quite modified. I don't want to take my maternity leave too early so we have the max amout of time with babe in arms. But overall, we're filled with apprehension, excitement, anxiety and longing to hold our new little person in our arms!

We'll let you know as soon as we know anything...which will hopefully be soon! PLEASE...I'm not afraid to beg at this point!
